Mathematics

Facilities 

There are five maths classrooms in the Ranfurly building, each of which is equipped with a data projector. This has enabled an increase in the use of ICT within the subject in the last few years. 

KS3

Maths is compulsory in forms 1-5 with a wide range of topics covered including basic algebra, probability and problem solving.

In third year all pupils take part in the Maths Challenge in which they can be awarded either a Bronze, Silver or Gold Certificate. 

GCSE

Approximately half the year group do GCSE maths in Form 4 and additional maths in Form 5 with additional maths being a useful link to AS Maths.

A-Level

In lower sixth...AS Modules C1, C2 and M1 are covered and this learning is enhanced in upper sixth with the study of the A2 Modules C3, C4 and S1.

AS Further Mathematics is taught to a small number of pupils in upper sixth

How does maths benefit pupils? 

Mathematics develops skills in oral, written and practical work. Pupils learn to think clearly and logically, analyse situations and organise their work. They use mathematics as a means of communication and apply it in other areas of the curriculum. They are equipped with transferable skills which help prepare them for future employment.
