Team captain John Buckley lifts the Danske Bank Schools Trophy

Congratulations to the 1st XV rugby squad on a great performance in the Danske Bank Trophy final against Lurgan College. The match ended 29-10. Tries from Jonathan Black, Matthew Clarke, Peter Doran and Aaron McCammon. Match report below and photos to follow.

A shaky start from RSD allowed the opposition to gain plenty of early possession and Lurgan scored first with a penalty. Nevertheless RSD showed good composure and responded almost immediately with a try from loosehead prop Jonny Black and a conversion from John Buckley.

RSD gained confidence steadily throughout the first half and flanker Matthew Clarke grabbed a well-worked try, giving RSD a 12-3 advantage at half time.

Jonny Black went over for his second score of the game early in the second half and Buckley added the extras to extend the lead to 19-3.

Lurgan College fought their way back into the game and were rewarded when a loose pass led to an interception try under the posts which, when converted, left the score 19-10.

But again RSD responded superbly and claimed two more impressive tries, through number 8 Peter Doran and fullback Aaron McCammon.
