A Warm Welcome

At Royal School Dungannon our focus is on the pupil and we invite you to sample pupil life at RSD.

I feel cared for

We understand the needs of our pupils and we provide exceptional pastoral care via a dedicated team of professional and caring staff.

FamilyWorks, our school counselling service, has offered to continue to work remotely with RSD pupils.  For more information please visit our Pastoral Page.

RSD Boarding

At RSD our aim is to ensure that boarding is an enjoyable experience and that the boarding environment helps boarders to develop academically, spiritually, physically and emotionally.

I feel welcomed

We work hard to ensure that entering RSD as a new Year 8 pupil is both an exciting and reassuring experience.

I feel confident

We provide a safe and caring environment where pupils have the opportunity to develop their self-confidence and reach their academic potential in an atmosphere of mutual respect.

I feel a sense of belonging

Our House System complements the pastoral work of the Heads of Year and Form Tutors and contributes to the pupils’ sense of belonging to the school community.

I feel proud

Pupils are expected to wear their uniform with pride and to understand that they represent the School and are promoting its identity.

I am learning

The focus at RSD is on learning. We value knowledge and help all pupils to have a sound understanding of the subjects they study.

I am discovering

Our curriculum is a blend of traditional subjects from the Sciences, Arts, Humanities and Languages alongside more practical and contemporary subjects.

I am progressing

We monitor the academic progress of all pupils during each Key Stage. The focus is on helping pupils and parents to understand where a pupil is in terms of his or her learning in each subject.

I am achieving

At RSD pupils fulfil their academic potential. Performance is consistently above the average figures for both UK and Northern Ireland schools.       GCSE Results A Level Results

Colour Run 2023 #beyourbestself

Colour Run 2023 #beyourbestself

The stats are in! Last month, our school community raised an amazing £7,106 for The Royal Marines Charity and Aware NI. Well done everyone for this amazing effort.

Year 14 pupil, Chloe McCollum, described the experience:

“October 24th saw another return to normal for RSD with the Colour Run – an event last experienced in 2018; I should know – I have the multicolour stained t-shirt to prove it! The 2023 Colour Run proved to be just as noisy, messy, and enjoyable as last time. All monies raised are going towards two very worthy causes, The Royal Marines Charity and Aware NI. We welcomed back Mr Phillip Eaglesham, guest speaker at our Prize Day, an advocate for these charities and for mental health awareness. What exactly is a Colour Run?….Well, a Colour Run is known as the Happiest run on the planet! A unique paint race that celebrates healthiness, happiness, and individuality, it is less about speed and more about having a crazy, colour filled day with your friends – everything you would expect from RSD as we embraced the #beyourbestself theme. Having advised parents what pupils should wear on the day, staff were strategically positioned to make the most of dousing pupils with coloured powder from the buckets they had on hand, and they weren’t afraid to use them! Having started out pristine in our brand-new white t-shirts to mark the event, by the end of the run and with each passing explosion of colour, we were coated in blue, green, yellow, pink, orange, and red. We passed through the finish line in bunches much like handfuls of coloured smarties. To be fair, the staff, some more than others, did get a little messy too. I understand Dr Beckmann Colour Run remover (other brands are available) should do the trick if you are still struggling. Sadly, as a Year 14 I will miss next year’s Colour Run but you might see me lurking with a bucket!”
