Last November the Eco School Committee registered to take part in the European Week for Waste Reduction – an initiative which involves schools throughout Europe. The action group, alongside the good work currently being carried out within the Food Technology department, took a KS3 assembly explaining the introduction of new recycling bins in school.  The group have also organised guest speakers throughout the year to raise awareness of the importance of waste reduction. Within Northern Ireland alone over 543 organisations entered the event, which is a 45% increase on the previous year. This ranked Northern Ireland the top performing region in the UK and fourth overall in Europe. We have recently received our certificate of commended status for the school from the Minister of the Environment, Alex Attwood.  We would like to encourage everyone connected to the school to continue to rethink the ways in which they dispose of their waste.
