Pupils at the Royal School Dungannon have achieved excellent GCSE results in this summer’s examinations, with 48% of all grades at A* or A, 73% of all grades at A*-B and 97% of all grades at A*-C.

45/104 pupils returned at least 6 A*/A grades. Tamah Martin led the way with a clean sweep of 10 A* grades, Jonathan McKenzie returned 9 A* grades plus 1 A grade and Gabrielle Mischook scored 8 A* grades plus 2 A grades. Lucy Davidson achieved 7 A* grades plus 3 A grades, Emma Arthur scored 7 A*, 2 A and 1 B grade, Ayden Tong scored 7 A* and 2 A grades, and Reuben Gallagher achieved 6 A* grades, 3 A grades and 1 B grade. Jamie Creaney and Oscar Gilpin each returned 5 A* and 5 A grades.

Toby McClean, Victoria Sharkey, Grace Smyth, Zara Mitchell, Anna Sloane and Jayne McConnell all achieved a combination of 10 A*/A grades in their overall totals. Philip Glasgow, Kristyn Archer, Hannah Atkinson, Stephen Wylie, Emma Gilmore and Zak Hall all returned A*/A grades in 9 subjects within their overall totals.

Ashley Ip, Matthew Mak, Hannah Conway, Djamila Ferran, Alexa Eccles, Ben Morrow, Caleb Thompson, Zara Wylie and India Aiken all scored 8 A*/A grades within their overall totals. Ellie McFarland, Ellen Burnside, Joshua Burton, Joshua Ferguson, Alana Jamieson-Ewing, Jessica Kerr, Daniel Needham, Paco Ng and James Parks all achieved a combination of 7 A*/A grades in their overall totals. Actin Au, Matthew Smith, McKenzie Gervin, Apple Yeung, Abigail Patton and Harry Wylie all scored a combination of 6 A*/A grades in their overall totals.

This year the Year 11 pupils completed examination modules in a range of subjects and returned excellent results which will form the basis for further success in the GCSE examinations next summer.

The Headmaster, Dr David Burnett, praised the pupils’ achievements stating that, “The pupils have worked with real determination and focus throughout the past two years and their excellent results are a reward for all that hard work. They deserve huge congratulations for their efforts and dedication. It is particularly pleasing that they have dealt with the challenges thrown up by the pandemic earlier in their school careers and the impact on their GCSE exams, with a return to the tighter grade distribution of 2019. The support of parents and teachers has been a very important factor, encouraging pupils to deal with those various challenges and to stay focused on doing their best. Their guidance has been hugely appreciated, not least by the pupils themselves. My congratulations to all!”
