On the weekend of 20th – 22nd May the Under 13A Hockey squad took part in an end of season mini tour to the north coast. On Friday 20th May the team left RSD and stopped to play a very competitive match against a combined U13/14 side at local neighbours Cookstown High School. This was a really entertaining match to watch, with RSD emerging as 4:2 winners. Goals were scored by Evie Girvan (2) and Honor Davidson (2). The team then made their way to their accommodation for the weekend, the Lodge Hotel in Coleraine, before enjoying diner at a local pizzeria and some ice cream in Portstewart.
Saturday 21st saw the team playing another fixture, this time against mixed junior side at Coleraine Grammar school. Again the team played very well against competitive opposition and were able to win the match. Scorers on the day were Evie Girvan (3), Honor Davidson, Erin May McCreedy and Elliot Hutchinson. It was also great to see RSD’s former headmaster Paul Hewitt, who was there to watch his granddaughter play for Coleraine. With the hockey out of the way, the girls enjoyed an afternoon of amusements (and lots of sugar!) in Portrush, before finishing the evening with some ten-pin bowling at the Jet Centre.
I’d like to thank the staff at Cookstown High and Coleraine Grammar for providing us with fixtures at a busy time of year and to commend the girls for their excellent behaviour and fun-filled attitude over the whole weekend. This was an enjoyable way to end what has been an excellent season of hockey for the girls.
Special thanks to Mr Kerr for this report.
