House Music Competition 2024

On Wednesday 10th April, RSD had their first House Music Competition. Each house had to prepare 4 performances, produce a programme and then present their programme to the judges. The judges on this occasion were Mr Cuddy and Mr Henning and they were treated to a feast of music throughout the day. Nicolson Dungannon were up first and filled the stage with performers from Year 8 right through to Year 14. Mountjoy Ranfurly were up next and presented the most varied programme on the day, from classical pianists through to solo rappers. Beresford Charlemont took to the stage next with everything from sea shanties on the flute to Jimi Hendrix on electric guitar. It was then left to Bullingbrook Tyrone to entertain the audience with an original song and some Taylor Swift for good measure. Each house had a compere who introduced each performer and the performers were encouraged all the way by members of their house.
In the end Bullingbrook Tyrone were the winners by one mark from Nicolson Dungannon. Mr Cuddy remarked that the Music Department was the real winner on the day as he recognised the huge amount of talent on display during the day. The competition ended with all the Junior pupils back in the Assembly Hall after lunch to listen to a selection of performances from each house.
Thanks must go to Mrs Matthews for driving this new initiative, the House Staff and prefects for preparing the performances, Mr Cuddy and Mr Henning for judging and Mr Drennan for taking care of all the sound requirements on the day. All in all, the event was a huge success and provides an excellent foundation on which to build on for future House Music competitions.
Thanks to Mr Cuddy for providing this report.
