Due to Covid pandemic, it has been 2 years since we have had Dilworth tutors with us in RSD Finally, this year, we are lucky to have 3 Kiwis join us once again. It has already been almost two months since they have arrived in the RSD boarding department. They have settled in and have become a part of the RSD community. Let me introduce to you Nigel, Sione, and Oliver.

First, we have Oliver. Back in Dilworth, he studied Biology, Physics, English, Calculus, and Economics in his final year. He shows most interest in Science, and so he is planning to do Biology for university after his gap year with us in RSD. Another interest he has is in hockey, and he has been helping with hockey teams in RSD. He has enjoyed getting to meet new people from across different ages for the past month. Apart from hockey, he has also been particularly involved in helping in classes, such as English and drama. He also recently had a chance to watch a game of the Belfast Giants in the SSE Arena… he just thought it was quite cold to be somewhere you play hockey. Not to mention, this has also been the first time the boys lived in the snow – they thought it was an amazing experience and cannot wait for the next time it snows!

Second of all, we have Sione, who claims to be an “academic weapon”. Back in Dilworth, he took English, Statistics, Music, Art, and Media studies in his last year of high school. He is glad to have the opportunity to escape studying for a year. Outside of academia, he is also a rugby player and is a self-proclaimed “shifty front rower”. For the last month, he has been training in the Dungannon Rugby Club and he has enjoyed getting to know people in the community and meeting new people with different personalities. Although he is very much enjoying the time here, kicking back relaxing, and enjoying the flow, he misses the blazing sun back at home and his Dilworth brothers.

Last but not least, we have Nigel. Back in Dilworth, he took English, PE, Statistics, Biology, and Music. However, for the most part focuses on his rugby. He is looking to continue advancing his rugby career after RSD. He has been attending training at the Dungannon rugby club. He has also been helping out in games and PE period during school. Despite his strength on the rugby pitch, he has is afraid of the cold in Northern Ireland and for the first time in his life he felt the need to layer up! Nigel is also a musician, he plays tenor saxophone and clarinet, he was the lead clarinettist of the concert band at Dilworth. 

All three boys are becoming part of the fabric of RSD. They are loving the food from the canteen (especially chilli potatoes and paninis). In all of their roles in school, they are keen to put a smile on people’s face and look forward to their journey in the upcoming months in RSD.
