It is with real sadness that we have said farewell to RSD’s Head of Boarding, Mrs Joanne Mawhinney. Mrs Mawhinney had been Head of RSD Boarding since 2011 and in the past eight years she has been at the helm of a great many improvements to boarding life, developing a first rate staff team and a great experience for boarders. Boarders and staff recently took the opportunity to celebrate her outstanding contribution to RSD and boarding in particular, sending her on her way with a lovely tribute and gifts. Mrs Mawhinney is now embarking upon a new career path outside education and we wish her every success and happiness.
We have undertaken a major recruitment process to find Mrs Mawhinney’ s successor. There was a lot of interest and a large number of applications and, following a rigorous selection process, I am delighted to announce that Ms Sarah Winslow has been appointed as our new Head of Boarding.
Ms Winslow is a former RSD pupil and she has been involved in both the school admin team and RSD Boarding for a number of years. She has undertaken the role of Acting Head of Boarding and for the past two years has been an Assistant Head of Boarding. Ms Winslow is heavily involved in RSD Boarding’s activities programme and has built strong relationships with boarders of all ages. She is also a keen sports fan, with hockey and football firm favourites, and she has just completed the Irish Football Association’s year-long ‘female football leadership programme’. Her artistic and computer talents are on show daily with her posts on RSD Boarding Facebook and Twitter, capturing the fun and friendship of boarding life. We are all excited to have Ms Winslow as our new Head of Boarding and we are looking forward to the next chapter in the life of RSD Boarding.
