Physics R & D teams complete Gold Crest Award residential

On Monday 15th & Tuesday 16th January, pupils in the R & D teams went to University of Ulster, Jordanstown to work on the residential component of their individual projects: reducing waste in saw processes. This visit will contribute to their Gold Crest Award.

The R & D teams consist of ten Year 13 RSD pupils studying AS physics who are part of an annual learning experience hosted by Mallaghan engineering, where students get a chance to invent and research real engineering projects. The project has proven to be an extremely valuable piece of learning for Physics pupils and a very enjoyable experience.

Students were treated to a fun night out after their hard work, going to the cinema and Pizza-Hut. Andrew Lamont who took part in the event said “We all had a great time and we learnt so many valuable and interesting things,” he then went on to say “We made lots of progress in our project, being in team R & D is definitely a great opportunity”.

A big thanks to Mrs Chambers and Miss Mccombe for organising the event.
