All pupils and staff at RSD enjoyed the opportunity today to participate in the ‘Walk and Talk’ event, as part of the Positive Mental Health community campaign. Mrs Kerr and the Safer School Team of pupils organised a superb event, where pupils followed a guided route around the school grounds with five stops along the journey, focusing on aspects of the Public Health Agency’s ‘Take 5’ message: Give, Be Active, Connect, Keep Learning and Take Notice.
The local Spar and Eurospar retailers have kindly sponsored this event and will consequently supply a total of 7000 bottles of water this week, to each school that is participating in the local area of Dungannon. Tesco has also kindly sponsored 1000 bananas for the event. Each pupil involved will therefore remain well hydrated and energised as they fulfil the ‘Be Active’ and ‘Connect’ aspects of the ‘Take 5’ message. A competition to come up with a suitable name and logo for the new community group will also be run within each of the secondary schools at KS3 level (Years 8, 9 & 10).
“We are delighted with the response from all corners of the community towards our Positive Mental Health campaign and we’re hoping that this is the start of something really powerful within our town. With everybody working together we can make a huge impact on promoting positive mental health within Dungannon and further afield.” Mrs Kerr
Our Safer School Team has also prepared presentations for each school to use throughout the week. Our assemblies this week have already featured many aspects of the Take 5 message.
