Record breaking pupils participate in world’s largest ever science lesson

Year 8 pupils in the process of smashing the World Record for the largest science lesson

On Tuesday 24 February RSD’s Year 8 pupils joined with pupils from 29 schools across Northern Ireland in Belfast’s Odyssey Arena as part of the Northern Ireland Science Festival.

In total 1339 pupils took part in a ‘crimatography’ experiment, which involved solving a crime using science.  Sitting at tables which lined the floor of the arena, the huge ‘class’ took instructions from their teacher on stage and conducted experiments showing scientific ‘separation’.

Guinness World Record adjudicator Pravin Patel confirmed that the attempt was valid and successful in beating the previous record, a lesson involving 982 participants set in Yorkshire in 2014.

Well done to all of RSD’s record breakers!
