RSD Sevens

The 26th March saw the closing stages of the rugby season with the Ulster Schools Sevens tournament which was held in Campbell college. The tournament had two tiers: medallion and senior.

The day proved to be widely competitive with very open rugby which was played at a high tempo. The senior squad was placed in a pool wit RBAI, Regent House, Bangor Academy and Dalriada. Following the 4 matches the teams which finished in the top 2 would progress to the quarter finals.

RSD’s senior team performed well in their first two matches, winning against Bangor Academy 33-7 and taking the notable scalp of RBAI, beating them 28-5.

RSD slipped against Regent House, however, when they lost 21-12 but were able to regain a chance to progress into the quarter finals when they showed dogged detremination against Dalriada to win 26-17.

RSD met Ballymena Academy in the quarter play-offs, and the match started brightly with RSD registering a try in the opening stages.  After this, however, Ballymena dominated scoring with a brush of tries which left RSD chasing the game until the final whistle. RSD eventually bowed out of the tournament 29-7 losers to Ballymena who continued their impressive form and eventually won the tournament.
