On the evening of Thursday 8th November, Zara McDermott, Leah Maxwell and Ellen Kirkland participated in the annual Soroptimist public speaking competition against nine girls from other local schools.

It was held in Ranfurly House by Soroptimist International and the Mid-Ulster Women’s Aid; both organisations with strong beliefs in helping females gain confidence. The girls had to prepare a 4-6 minute speech on their chosen topics, with the aim to impress the three judges and intrigue the audience watching.

All of the girls were highly praised for their “excellent research”, “great delivery” and “the overall high standard of speech.” This was a great opportunity for developing confidence as well as discussing very topical issues.
