Trips & Visits

RSD pupils enjoy lots of opportunities to go on trips, attend conferences and open days, enter competitions and learn from visitors. Many of these opportunities are organised through subject Departments and clubs & societies but some are whole school in nature and open to all pupils.

Most of these activities are local in nature but some take pupils a little further afield with trips to London, Paris, Rome or Madrid; or a ski trip to the Alps; or with the Uganda Team to work at Bethel Royal High School in Nakasongola.

Wherever the destination, the key focus is always on expanding pupils’ horizons so that pupils extend their learning and interests beyond the classroom.

Soroptimist Success

RSD pupils impress in local public speaking competition, held in Ranfurly House by Soroptimist International and the Mid-Ulster Women’s Aid.

A Royal Debate

On Thursday 15th November, the five Royal Schools participated in the annual 1608 Royal Schools Debating Competition. The competition was hosted this year by Royal School Cavan.

Year 11 Historians journey to Belgium

A group of pupils from RSD and St Patrick’s Academy recently travelled to Belgium to visit a number of sites as part of a joint SESP trip.

Sixth Form pupils visit QUB and UU Open Days

Year 14 pupils attended Queens University Belfast’s Open Day yesterday (Thursday) and Ulster University’s Open Day at Jordanstown on Tuesday.

Ice Skating & Bowling with Year 11

Year 11 enjoyed a visit to Dundonald Ice-Bowl today, for a morning of ice skating and an afternoon of bowling.

WW1 Battlefields tour for Dungannon Cadets, Hollie and Sarah

On the evening of 14th March, Dion Di Maio (Year 13) and Catherine Boyd (Year 12) competed against twenty-three other students from twelve different schools across Northern Ireland in ‘The Edgar Graham LLB BL Memorial Public Speaking Competition’.

On Tuesday 20th February, pupils studying Art & Design at GCSE and A Level went to the Ulster Museum Belfast to see the CCEA True Colours Art Exhibition.

Physics R & D teams complete Gold Crest Award residential

On Monday 15th & Tuesday 16th January, pupils in the R & D teams went to University of Ulster, Jordanstown to work on the residential component of their individual projects: reducing waste in saw processes.
