On Thursday the 31st of March the five Royal Schools (Dungannon, Cavan, Armagh, Raphoe and Portora) participated in the annual 1608 debating competition.
This year’s competition was hosted by the Royal School Cavan, and our two debating teams were Simon Hall with Katie Older, and Emily Garvin alongside Anastasiya Kret (all Year 13). They all travelled to Cavan for an evening of lively and interesting debates.
Both teams performed very well. Emily Garvin and Anastasiya Kret won against Armagh, allowing them to make it to the semi-final of the competition, where they were, unfortunately, beaten by Raphoe. In the other group, Simon Hall and Katie Older went all the way to the final after winning against Cavan and Armagh. Sadly, they narrowly missed out on winning the final when Raphoe yet again proved to have a slightly more convincing argument.
Overall, the debates proved to be a major success, and were enjoyed hugely by those who were involved.
