The theme this year was “Everybody is Somebody” and the Year 13 antibullying committee was busy in the run-up organising events for Key Stage 3 pupils.

The LVI pupils involved took Year 8 assembly on Monday 19 November.  Several Year 8 pupils took part in a drama created by the LVI pupils; others created posters and provided a presentation or an antibullying poem.  A short video entitled “Celebrities Against Bullying” was shown.

On Thursday 22 November a joint Year 9 and 10 assembly was held.  A video on cyberbullying was shown to the two year groups and LVI pupils gave useful advice to the groups.

During the week Year 13 pupils took Year 8 form class periods using a walking debate to illustrate key points.  The younger pupils were all involved in the lessons and enjoyed the activity.

On Friday 23 November Constable Wright from PSNI showed a hard hitting video clip in Main Assembly about the effect of bullying on a young person’s life.  She gave the pupils advice to follow if they became the subject of bullying.

The week ended with Year 8 pupils receiving an anti-bullying card to keep in their blazer pocket.  It gives details of how they can get help if they are being bullied.  This useful card was created by LVI committee.

The committee’s aim was to make the younger pupils aware of the impact that bullying has on a person’s well being and hopefully to help towards stopping bullying in RSD.
