Ashley with Chef de Mission and RSD Old Boy, Robert McVeigh
The 2010 Commonwealth Games took place in Delhi between the 3rd and the 14th of October and Ashley Givan, currently in Year 11, was the amongst the youngest of the participants.
Representing Northern Ireland, she took part in Table Tennis in the team event and in the group stages of the singles competition. The team aimed for the top 8, and they narrowly missed out on their goal by finishing in a very creditable 9th position after losing to Nigeria.
She is extremely proud of her achievement in representing her country, and she describes the experience as “huge” and the atmosphere as “immense”. She would love to return to the Commonwealth Games in the future and one day she hopes to be a paid professional.
