Well done to Year 12 and Sixth Form pupils who received their examination results recently.
GCSE
There were record-breaking GCSE results in this summer’s examinations. The overall results showed a record number of A*, A and B grades achieved with 57.4% of all grades at A*/A and 83.2% at A*-B, beating the previous high figures set in 2010 and 2014.
An incredible 50/103 pupils who sat GCSE examinations returned at least 7 A*/A grades. Jennifer McLean secured a clean sweep of 10 A* grades, Grace Doran returned 9 A* grades plus 1 A grade, and Andrew Irvine achieved 8 A* and 2 A grades. Sarah Maxwell and Kerry McMullan each scored 8 A* grades plus 1 A grade while Emily Elliot-Murphy, Lauren Plunkett and Adam Smith all returned 7 A* and 3 A grades.
Matthew Maguire, Kira McCammon, Adam McFarlane, Lareyna McMenemy and Sophie Shannon carried off 10 A*/A grades each. Suzanne Bell, Rebecca Boyd, Rebekah Clingan, Zara-Louise Farmer, Hannah Fowler, Aaron Graham, Natalie Graham-Mulgrew, Emily Greenaway, Reuben Morrow, Julie Orr, Adam Patterson, Joshua Patton, Lucy Steenson and Hannah Weir each returnedA*/A grades in 9 subjects. Polo Chiu, Nadine Graham-Mulgrew and Callum Parke all scored 5 A* grades in their overall totals.
92% of pupils met DENI benchmarks of returning at least 7 A*-C grades including Mathematics and English; and 97% of pupils secured at least 5A*-C grades including Mathematics and English.
AS and A2 Level
RSD’s Sixth Form pupils achieved excellent A Level results in this summer’s examinations with 7 out of 10 grades awarded at the top grades of A*, A or B and an average UCAS points return per pupil of 330 (approaching the equivalent of 2 As and 1 B). The overall pass rate was 98.4% across all subjects.
12 pupils out of a cohort of 77 secured at least 3 A* or A grades. Alex MacDonald led the way, returning A* grades in all 4 of her subjects, while May McCool and Ellen McLean each scored 3 A* grades plus 1 A grade. Robyn Elliot-Murphy achieved 2 A* and 2 A grades and Courtney Hadden scored 2 A* grades and 1 A grade. Joshua McKee and Jim Meng carried off at least 1 A* grade plus 2 A grades each. David McFarlane, Kenneth Mok, Claude Mok, Jill Morrow and Benny Tang completed the line up with at least 3 A grades each. In addition, 11 other pupils achieved at least 2 A* or A grades and 1 B grade.
At AS Level a large number of RSD pupils established a strong platform for A Level success next year, with around 6/10 grades at A or B grade. 14 pupils returned at least three A grades in their chosen subjects, including Nina Choo, Gary Lau and Karen Wong who each achieved 5 A grades, and Rachel Burrows, Vicky Chick, Jonathan Gilmour, Derek Mak, Sophie Steenson, Stephen Stewart and Emma Thompson who each secured 4 A grades. Jo McKeown, Lydia Reilly, Hannah Smyth and Lucy Talbot all returned at least 3 A grades. A further 12 pupils achieved 2 A grades and 1 B grade.
