About Eco-Schools

The Eco-School programme is a recognised award scheme, rewarding and accrediting schools who have made a commitment to continuously improving their environmental performance. It is also a learning resource, raising awareness of environmental issues through activities that link to curriculum subjects.

It aims to make environmental awareness and action an intrinsic part of the life and ethos of a school. This will include the students, teachers, non-teaching staff and parents, as well as the local authority, the media and local businesses. Eco-Schools endeavours to extend learning beyond the classroom and develop responsible attitudes and commitment, both at home and in the wider community.

In RSD we have set up a Eco-school committee who are currently completing a environment review on  the school with the aim of selecting one areas and completing an action project throughout the year. The review is focusing on the following ten areas;

Biodiversity, Litter, Waste, Energy, Water, Transport, Healthy Living, School Grounds, Global Perspective and Climate Change.

Our Eco-School offers RSD opportunities to:

• Raise achievement and enhance learning styles and thinking skills outside of the classroom
• encourage active citizenship and environmental awareness
• gain access to a network of local delivery partners
• gain a prestigious Eco school award
• gain local publicity
