The Christmas Hound

Twas’ the night before Christmas,

Every child was fast in bed,

But among those sleeping children,

Was a dog who simply couldn’t rest his head.

He was extremely excited,

More than you could possibly perceive,

His favourite night of the year rolled around,

It was Christmas Eve!

His heart was racing like a flash,

And his patience was incredibly small,

But can you really blame the hound,

It was his first Christmas after all!

He waited and waited,

And waited some more,

He waited and waited,

Until he got bored.

He tossed and he turned,

He tried counting sheep,

But nothing worked,

The poor pooch couldn’t fall asleep!

When suddenly just then,

There was a smash outside,

He looked out the window,

“It’s Santa!” the dog cried.

Saint Nick’s sleigh had crashed,

And his journey had been put to a halt,

It was evident by the way Santa was yelling,

It was the reindeer’s who were at fault.

“You’re useless the lot of you!”

Santa started to declare,

“I should fire the lot of you on the spot!

See if I would care!”

Then the dog stepped outside,

To see what the bother was about,

“Santa what is the problem?”

The hound began to shout.

“My good man,” Santa started,

“My reindeer have failed thee!

Now with no mode of transport,

All hope inside has left me!”

The dog replied, “Oh Santa,

Please don’t start to sob,

As I will be your reindeer,

I will do an excellent job!”

Santa was over the moon,

He thought it was his lucky day!

And without saying a word,

He attached the dog to his sleigh.

But then the dog’s pride,

Suddenly wasn’t as high,

“But Santa what good is a reindeer,

Whom simply cannot fly?”

“Don’t worry my pup!”

Santa assured,

“For as long as you have Christmas spirit,

You will fly just like a bird!”

And wouldn’t you know it,

The dog started to fly,

He flew super-fast,

And he flew super high!

Santa said, “Get ready boy,

Here is the next destination,

37 Toffee Street,

Right by the train station.”

They stopped at a house,

To give presents to a boy named Thomas Lee.

They both hoped on the roof,

And they slide down the chimney.

While the pooch was filling the stocking,

Santa set the presents in one big dive,

They contained a teddy, a toy, deodorant,

And even a PlayStation 5!

They had to deliver presents to many places,

They hadn’t time to prance,

They set of too many countries like,

Germany, Belgium, and France,

Poland, Ukraine, USA, England,

Greenland, Netherlands, Iceland, and Scotland.

Though while delivering presents in Brazil,

They were spotted by a girl named Rose,

But she didn’t panic or make a fuss,

She simply patted the dog’s nose.

Until finally the pair,

Had completed their mission,

They delivered the presents,

And sent Santa’s worries into submission.

“But Santa what if this was all just a dream?”

The dog started to worry,

Santa said “Then it will be a dream

You won’t forget in a hurry!”

So then in the morning,

When the dog opened a present he found,

A note that read

“Happy holidays, The Christmas Hound!”
