Commonwealth qualifying for Calum Bain

Our congratulations go to former pupil Calum Bain (featured on the far right of photograph) on his outstanding recent swimming achievements.

Calum recently achieved a qualification time for 50m freestyle for the 2018 Commonwealth Games (subject to selection in December 2017) at the British Championships 2017. Calum then competed as part of the Irish Swim Team in Amsterdam, placing 5th in 50m freestyle (now ranking 10th in the world), 7th in 50m fly and 6th in 100m freestyle. He has also been selected to compete as part of the Irish Team in the European Short Course Championship in Copenhagen in December 2017, the Commonwealth training squad and the potential Tokyo 2020 Olympic squad training camp.

The Headmaster, Dr Burnett, said, “As a school, we witnessed Calum’s commitment to training in the pursuit of reaching his goals over many years. He has had to make lots of sacrifices along the way and I know he would be the first to acknowledge the support of his family and coaches. He is very humble when discussing his achievements and always shows incredible sportsmanship and we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Calum and to highlight how proud we are of him.”
