In the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, a new season of expeditions has begun. Earlier in the year we embarked on a new initiative, made possible through SEP funding, to work along side St Patrick’s Academy for Silver Award training with 32 Year 11 students, (16 from each school).
After a winter of extensive training in navigation, map work, and first aid, we are now down to the exciting time of the year when we put into practice what we have learnt. Practice expeditions for Silver and Gold have already been completed and qualifying expeditions are planned for June 16th-18th (Silver) and June 27th– July 2nd (Gold).
The Silver group meeting with St Patrick’s Academy has been a great success and strong friendships have been formed between both students and staff. It has been very encouraging to see how well all of the groups have worked as teams during the practice, helping each other and supporting each other when the going got tough. We are confident of continued success as we head towards the hills for the qualifying expeditions!
