As part of the Peace III Schools’ project, 22 A Level history students from both The Royal School and St Patrick’s Academy were given the opportunity to travel to Belgium and France in order to enhance our knowledge of World War One. The trip began with a very early start on Wednesday 2 October so the bus was quiet on the journey to Dublin Airport. After some confusion on the teachers’ part concerning the time of our flight, we made it toBelgium. On our first day we visited ‘Flanders Field Museum’ and then spent some free time in the beautiful town of Ieper, where we gorged on some delicious ice cream and spent most of our money on chocolate. No one argued with the early bedtime as we were all exhausted after our early start. Over the next two days, we visited many historical sights including
Tyne Cot Memorial, ThiepvalVillage and enjoyed a memorable Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate.  Through card games and pool tournaments, many friendships were formed between pupils from RSD and St Patrick’s and we now look forward to our trip to Dublin and our Peace III project. Everyone was certainly disappointed to be back in Dungannon.
