Salter’s Festival of Chemistry

A group of four Year 9 pupils attended this year’s event at Queen’s University Belfast. The festival is run by the Salter’s charity which was initially set up to encourage men returning from war to study towards Chemistry careers. The charity now focuses on encouraging pupils to study Chemistry and run events which allow participants to develop their analytical lab skills. The team consisting of Jennifer McLean, Grace Doran, Andrew Mullan and Matthew Mylroi-Lamont used their best detective skills to secure second place in the Salter’s challenge. The group also participated in the University challenge and a ‘flashes and bangs’ show led by the lecturers at Queen’s University brought an explosive end to an exciting day.
