Mrs Napier conducts the Royal Strings

The Spring Concert was held on 2 April and featured an array of talented pupils performing in many different musical ensembles. The RSD band got the evening off to a swinging start with an arrangement of New York New York. This was followed by the award winning Junior choir, under the direction of Mrs Napier singing a new composition by Mr Cuddy and an arrangement of Hushabye Mountain. The first half also included performances by the Brass Ensemble, String Quintet and a combined choir of over one hundred and fifty pupils singing You Raise me Up. The first half came to a fitting close with the RSD Pipe Band; this is a new ensemble and, under the direction of Mr Carmichael, will continue to develop and grow in the future. The Senior Choir introduced the audience to a medley from Miss Saigon in the second half before Rachel Maxwell romanced the listener with a beautiful piano solo by Sibelius. Another A Level Music student, Bethany Wilson took to the stage with a gentle, lyrical rendition of the Michael Head song Sweet Chance and this was suitably followed up by the Chamber Choir who sang two sophisticated a capella songs by Gerard Finzi and the madrigal composer John Farmer.  The night, of course, was not complete without the customary Leavers’ song which did not disappoint. Their toe tapping Abba theme and clever lyrics had the audience singing along and the Music department staff in stitches at their characterisations! The Band brought the evening to close with a Queen Medley and that was it…. ‘another one bites the dust’!
