SU Weekend

The 1st of October saw some 50 enthusiastic RSD pupils bound for Milisle for the much anticipated annual SU weekend. As ever the 3 days were not lacking in excitement much to the teachers’ dismay  (especially those who desired a quiet and relaxing break).

Marcus Sommerville was the guest speaker and his theme was ‘being fruitful in the Christian life’.  His text for the weekend was John 15; this was certainly a very appropriate passage and his message was hugely inspiring and challenging.

On the first evening Mr McGuinness organised a game orientated around the movie blockbuster ‘Star Wars’, and this provided a very upbeat mood from the start which carried through to the end of the weekend.

Saturday entailed a range of outdoor activities such as zip line, high ropes and canoeing, all of which were ‘terrifyingly enjoyable’ as one participant commented. The morning of the last day was spent down at the beach where songs of praise were sung before leaving for the ‘Old Grey Mother’.  The bus on the way home was the scene for much recuperating and sleeping.

Many thanks most be given to the SU Committee and the teachers involved in organising the SU weekend and making it the amazing success that it always is.
