Calum takes gold and sets new record at UK School Games

Congratulations to swimming star Calum Bain (Year 13) on winning gold in the 50m freestyle event at the Sainsbury’s 2013 School Games which were held between 13-15 September in Sheffield, England.

Representing Ireland, Calum finished with a new championship record time of 23.63 sec, beating the previous record by 0.6 seconds.

Calum’s outstanding achievement is just reward for his dedication to his sport.   His grueling training regime includes 40,000 metres per week in the water plus dry land training sessions at Dungannon Leisure Centre.  Calum is also a member of the High Performance Swim Ulster Squad which is based at Bangor’s all new swimming complex.
