COOKSTOWN CADET HONOURED AT HILLSBOROUGH
Cookstown teenager Cadet Corporal Jorja Wilson has been appointed to the role of Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet for the County of Tyrone for the coming year.
The accomplished 17-year-old student of Royal School Dungannon was formally awarded the honour at a ceremony at Hillsborough Castle, becoming one of eleven Lord Lieutenants’ Cadets in Northern Ireland, taking on a largely ceremonial role. Jorja can expect a busy year ahead, attending Mr Robert Scott, Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant for the County of Tyrone, on major civic occasions. In recognition of the award, Jorja who is a member of the Cookstown Open Army Cadet Force Detachment, will wear a special insignia on her uniform throughout her year in office.
The Citation which accompanies her award praises Jorja as ‘a very bright and capable Cadet, popular with her peers and extremely dedicated and committed to the ACF’. An excellent instructor, demonstrating strong communication skills, she had proved adept at recruiting and supporting new recruits. Jorja has successfully competed in Battalion Shooting, and was part of the Cadet 100 competition. She has also been a member of the Tripoli Cup team and has taken part in a number of Remembrance events.
Outside Cadet life, Jorja’s apparently boundless energy has seen her achieve her Lifesavers Award at her local Leisure Centre and she made time to volunteer to help her community during the Covid pandemic, grocery shopping and delivering medical supplies. Jorja is also an enthusiastic member of the Stewartstown Dramatic Society and, a gifted singer, she has entertained veterans and her local British Legion.
The Citation concludes, ‘Her turnout and bearing are exemplary; she is dependable, hard-working and honest.’
