Report: U14 Rugby Team

The U14s this year had a tremendous season; winning 16 out of 17 games with their only loss being away at BRA by a late penalty. Rory McClung excelled at no.8, with his dynamic style of play resulting in an outstanding 28 tries throughout the season. James Gibson also contributed significantly with 14 tries from the no.10 position, with an additional 58 conversions returning in a total of 186 points. What is most pleasingly is that a further 15 players scored tries, showing a real depth of talent across the squad. Notable wins came against larger Grammar School such as Sullivan Upper (39-0), Banbridge Academy (22-0), Wallace HS (36-27), Coleraine GS (40-7) and ERGS (21-0).

The team’s success attracted a lot of attention, with a large number of the squad being invited to Ulster School screenings. Nathan and Ryan Hamilton progressed into the U16 squads and took part in an Ulster Summer Programme; a large commitment through the summer months.

Thanks to the players for their efforts throughout the year, their parents for their dedicated support and to the coaches (Mr Willis, Mr McClintock & Joseph Cashel) for so freely giving of their time, words of encouragement and expertise.
