The RSD Swim Team travelled to Bangor to compete in The Ulster Schools Cup and Championships on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd of October, with well over one hundred schools represented at the event. Joshua Curry, Daniel McClean and Matthew Moan (all Year 8) competed on the Saturday. Daniel achieved 2 personal bests in freestyle and breast stroke whilst Joshua Curry narrowly missed qualifying for the Irish Schools Final in butterfly, by 0.02 seconds. Matthew Moan had 2 excellent swims in back stroke and fly, he was also rewarded with 2 personal bests and was twice placed 7th overall. He will progress to represent RSD and Ulster at the Irish Schools Minors Gala in Dublin, in February.
On Sunday Hannah Courtney (Year 10), Jayne Courtney (Year 8), Sarah Wilson and James Moan (both Year 10) left Dungannon bright and early at 6:15am. All swimmers put in plucky performances, competing in a really strong arena. James Moan achieved 16th out of 72 swimmers in breast stroke and 23rd out of 77 in back stroke and also two Swim Ulster qualifying times for his age group- which is quite an achievement.
On Sunday afternoon, Ellie Curry (Year 11) and Peter Mylroi Lamont (Year 13) competed in the Senior section, again both putting in fine performances. Peter achieved a fantastic bronze medal in breast stroke and 10th in fly.
