Report by Lewis Connelly (Year 12), on the events of the match on Saturday 21st January:
“RSD lost 7-17 to RSA this morning. We were all very proud of the boys’ performance. 100% was all we could ask for, very unlucky. We would like to say a massive thank you to all those who came to support, the boys appreciate it!
RSD started off with good line speed, leading to some brave tackling from Aaron Perry and Aaron McCammon, however we were caught out wide when RSA got an early score to leave it 5-0. RSD responded with some impressive line breaks and set pieces, RSD were awarded a penalty on the 22 and Adam Evans unfortunately did not convert, but thanks to some great mauling and plays from the forward pack Adam Evans shortly managed to snipe at the edge of the ruck to score our first try. Adam Evans converted leaving the score 7-5. Both teams had sustained periods of pressure but the score line remained 7-5 at half time!
RSD came out the second half with great composure on the ball, dominating the game until the last ten minutes. Due to a series of penalties Armagh scored and converted leaving the score 12-7, RSD gave everything in the last ten minutes but were unfortunate to concede again in the last minute of the game, to end the match 17-7. The score line does not represent how close the match was and the players should be very proud of their performance!”
