Year 10 Science Inspiration Day

On Thursday 22 January, 16 Year 10 pupils travelled to Queens University Belfast for a Science Inspiration Day. Students were given the opportunity to visit three areas within Queens University. In the Physiology Laboratory, thy had the chance to build DNA models with sweets and test a strawberry for DNA. In the Pharmacy building, pupils carried out a number of experiments to establish which gel would be most suitable for a medication pill. At the end of the day, the pupils visited the Sonic Arts Laboratory, where they enjoyed a range of activities, such as creating their own sounds, watching robots dance to “Gangnam style” and use the modern, virtual reality, gaming headset, “The Oculus Rift!”  For all involved, this was an inspirational visit and allowed pupils to experience career opportunities in the field of science.
